Directors and Executive Team

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Rembrandt Living is a not-for-profit Incorporated Association owned by its members and governed by its own Board of Directors.

The Board’s role is to focus on the direction of the organisation and strategic matters. It delegates the running of the everyday operations to our Chief Executive Officer, Deb Dutton.

The Board’s composition is based on the optimal mix of skills required to best lead the organisation at any given time. These skills currently include aged care; business administration, information technology, clinical care, marketing and communications, risk and financial management and strategic planning. All Directors are paid an annual stipend.

The Board is committed to practising best practice corporate and clinical governance including ethical behaviour, accountability and transparency. The Board fosters a supportive organisational culture by striving to balance humanitarian values and a business-like approach in the delivery of high-quality services to our community.

Sef van den Nieuwelaar

CHAIR

Sef has over 30 years of experience in finance and IT in the corporate world and a wealth of experience in governance and strategy in the NGO sector.

Sef is currently the Director of an IT transformation company mainly consulting to SA SME’s. His current governance roles include Board member of St John Ambulance SA and Chair of their Community Care Committee, board member of the Leaders Institute of SA, board member of Impact100 SA and as a Committee Member at the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Sef holds a Master of Science, Chemical Technology from the Technical University of Eindhoven, Netherlands and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and of the Leaders Institute of South Australia.

Marie Wood

DEPUTY CHAIR

Marie’s paid work has been in the area of education – teacher, principal and marketing communications consultant. Her roles on boards and committees have focussed on people in residential care facilities, individuals seeking employment, migrants and people seeking asylum, school aged Indigenous students in boarding residences and their families. Marie has been a director of their family business and has qualifications in education and a PhD in marketing and communications.

John Bird

TREASURER

John’s career has been predominantly in Finance, largely in automotive manufacture, including seven years with Ford(UK) and 25 years with Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd (MMAL). John joined the Rembrandt Living Board in 2012 and is currently the Treasurer. John is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK) and Australian society of Certified Practicing Accountants and is also an Associate Chartered Global Management Accountant (USA/UK).

Joy Tol

SECRETARY

Joy has enjoyed a varied and fulfilling career in the acute health care setting for 46 years, in both Clinical and Nurse Management Roles, as Nurse Unit Manager, Hospital Coordinator and Director of Nursing. Joy has a Master of Health Management (with electives in Quality and Finance), a Bachelor of Nursing and is a Registered Nurse, and Registered Midwife. Her broad clinical experience includes Intensive Care, Coronary Care, and Neonatal Intensive Care. She has post graduate qualifications in these specialties. Joy is passionate and committed to achieving quality outcomes, with sound evaluation methods that manage risk and seek opportunities for continuous improvement.

Etienne Scheepers

BOARD MEMBER

Etienne’s extensive career includes roles as Deputy Chief Executive for the Department for Child Protection, Executive Director (Workforce Innovation & Reform) for Health Workforce Australia and Executive Director for SA Health’s Workforce Division. Etienne has a Bachelor of Arts, a Law Degree, Master of Philosophy degrees and post graduate qualifications in leadership and management from various international universities.

Paul Thorne

BOARD MEMBER

Paul joined the Board in 2017 and is an experienced senior level executive with a background in managing large scale and complex services within leading South Australian organisations in aged care, retirement living and local government. Paul has a proven track record of significant change management and innovation implementation at strategic and operational levels. He is a commercially and financially astute results focused leader whose career is defined by developing high performing teams, improving business performance and delivering memorable customer experiences that drive strategic outcomes and profitability.

He has been married to wife Julie for 23 years and they have a nine year-old daughter Lily.

Jacques Metzer

BOARD MEMBER

Professor Dr Metzer has been on the Board since 2012 and Deputy Chair for the last year. After a lifetime career in University research, lecturing and academic leadership, Jacques still assesses university accreditations and practises privately in general psychology (including forensic and clinical). Jacques’ other governance roles include past Chair of the Australian Psychological Society (SA) and Co-Chair of the Occupational Psychiatry Section of the World Psychiatric Association, and currently is Vice President of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law (SA).

Simon Brewer

BOARD MEMBER

Simon has been an IT professional for 35 years including IT Management in manufacturing for 5 years and not-for-profit aged care from 2007 to the present. He served as the Mayor of Campbelltown from 2006 until stepping down in 2018 and has been involved in several Council and community organisations. He has been a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors for more than 10 years.

Keturah Bryson

BOARD MEMBER

Keturah joined the Board in 2024 yet began her work in aged care over 30 years ago as a carer while she completed registered nursing qualifications. This time provided critical learning of the unique place that ageing has in our lives, and in that of our families and community, and that kind, compassionate and knowledgeable care is essential when caring for our elders. Keturah’s career has been an ongoing extension of these principles through both the private and public health sector, across acute hospital settings and community. Her career highlights include her years working in palliative services and also as Director of Nursing of regional hospitals and aged care facilities in South Australia and health services in remote Papua New Guinea. Keturah currently holds an Operational Director role at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the building of the new WCH hospital.

Deb Dutton

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Deb is passionate about the right of older people to ‘receive the care you would want for your own parents’. This combined with her business nous makes Deb perfect for this role. Deb has tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Management and Finance and over 25 years’ experience in senior roles across various industries including health. Deb has held various board and governance positions and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Deb loves interacting with our residents and clients, her favourite compliment is being described as “the most un-like-a-CEO CEO”.

Etienne van Vugt

HOME CARE MANAGER

Etienne, who is of Dutch origin, has an IT background however has worked in aged care at Rembrandt (including Care Working) since 2010. Etienne is a systems and process-thinker however loves a laugh with our clients. Etienne is passionate and advocates for best practice aged care and has a thick Dutch accent!

Timara Poulish

GENERAL MANAGER RESIDENTIAL SERVICES (QUALITY & RISK)

Timara has 20 years’ aged care experience in a non-clinical capacity, having tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Food Safety and Work Health and Safety. Working in various positions within the Aged Care Industry she has gained an enormous amount of knowledge to assist in her current role. Timara has an ability to understand and communicate complex data and legislation requirements. Timara is friendly, approachable and always willing to help everyone.

Wade Reynolds

GENERAL MANAGER CORPORATE SERVICES

Wade has over 15 years‘ experience in senior financial and executive leadership roles and is passionate about driving purpose, effectiveness and innovation with a people centric focus. Wade’s ability to navigate complex challenges and narrow in on the pertinent issues combined with a partnering style of leadership, drawing on the skills, knowledge and experience of others, makes him a perfect fit to the Rembrandt Team. Wade can work and connect with anyone across the organisation and his door is always open.

Lisa Foster

CLINICAL ADVISOR

Lisa is a Registered Nurse with more years’ experience in aged care (both nursing and at executive levels) than she cares to remember, both here in SA and Victoria! Lisa also has a Grad Dip in Social Science and Masters of Business Administration. A passionate, empathetic clinician whose wise counsel is a crucial asset to our executive team. Lisa has a wicked sense of humour and is a delight to be around.

Joanna Strzelbicki

SENIOR FINANCE MANAGER

Joanna is a qualified and established Chartered Accountant with over 25 years’ experience in the finance industry working across all sectors. Joanna is passionate about aged care (yes as well as the numbers) and is a valued member of the team. Joanna is dependable, approachable and loves interacting with our residents and clients.
